Meet the Research Team
Dr. Sue Caton
Sue is the Principal Investigator of the project. This means that Sue is leading the work. Sue works at Manchester Metropolitan University. Sue has worked as a researcher with people with learning disabilities for many years and enjoys working with people with learning disabilities and allies on co-produced research projects.
Nathan Rawcliffe
Nathan is co-researcher on the project. He is committed to this exciting project because he has mental health and wants to know more about Medications being prescribed to people with Learning Disabilities. Nathan is also part of Manchester People First.
Professor Katherine Runswick-Cole
Katherine is a co-applicant on the project. This means she is working with the research team in the North East with public involvement. Katherine does lots of research and is passionate about working with people with learning disabilities. She is also the mother of two adult children, one who has been given the label of ‘learning disability.’
Christine Hutchinson
Christine is a co-applicant on the project. This means she will help the team with her clinical knowledge from working with and for people with learning disabilities for 37 years. Christine is a consultant Nurse at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation trust.
Matty Prothero
Matty is a co-researcher on the project. Matty is a director of Sunderland people first and is part of the team because he feels like he can bring his expert by experience side of things.
Professor Umesh Chauhan
Umesh is a co-applicant on the project and will help the team with his clinical knowledge as a Professor of Primary Care and GP Partner in East Lancashire. Umesh is also a Quality Improvement Clinical Lead for Lancashire South Cumbria Integrated Care Board.
Mark O'Farrell
Mark is a co-researcher on the project. Mark lives in Preston in Lancashire. He has been part of the self advocacy movement for over 23 years. Mark wants the voices of people with a learning disability to be heard, especially the voices of people with complex needs who communicate not using words (profound & multiple disabilities - PMLD). Mark's interests and hobbies are watching sports including football and cricket. His football team is Arsenal. Mark is a very sociable person so loves spending time with friends in the pub and playing bingo.
Professor Chris Hatton
Chris is a co-applicant on the project and works at Manchester Metropolitan University with Sue. Chris has been involved in lots of research over the years about how people with learning disabilities can have good mental health. Chris' job on the team is to support the research project through to a successful end, mainly through tea, coffee and cakes.
Dr Dawn Cavanagh
Dr. Dawn Cavanagh is a researcher on the project. This means that Dawn will be working on the project.
Dawn enjoys working with people with learning disabilities and is excited about the project.
Dr Francesca Ribenfors
Francesca is a researcher on the project and works at Manchester Metropolitan University with Sue, Chris and Dawn. Francesca has worked on several different research projects with people with learning disabilities. Before becoming a researcher, Francesca worked with people with learning disabilities and their families in London.
Alison Owen, Jodie Bradley, Vicky Farnsworth and Robert Parkin (co-researchers from Speakup)
Alison, Jodie, Vicky & Robert are co-researchers on the project, with support from Annie and Hayley (far right). Vicky loves learning new things, is a good representative and has lots of experience in co-research.
Jodie has a mild learning disability and autism and since being at Speakup has done things she never dreamed of doing. She is still learning new things and enjoys it! Jodie is a governor for Rotherham Opportunities College which is a great achievement. Robert is also a good representative and helps people with learning disabilities to have a voice during meetings.
Alison is also good at supporting people by communicating well and listening to others.
Annie founded Speakup with Robert, and alongside Hayley is an advocate for people with learning disabilities and autistic people. They will be supporting the co-researchers throughout medications and my mental health.
