Today is World Mental Health Day 2023. This is a day we can think about our mental health.

ree

The theme for this year is ‘Mental health is a universal human right’.

This means that EVERYONE has the right to have the best mental health they can.

Everyone should be able to get good mental health support and care.

ree

Lots of people with learning disabilities are not supported to have the best mental health they can.

ree

This includes how people are supported when they take medication for their mental health or when they are asked to think about taking them. This is what our research is about.

ree

People with learning disabilities are given mental health medications more than other people.

ree

Sometimes people find mental health medications helpful.

ree

Sometimes people find mental health medications unhelpful.

ree

Often people with learning disabilities and their families are not given enough information about their medications.

ree

People are not always told about or supported to do the other things that could help with their mental health.

ree

Sometimes people with learning disabilities and their families are left out of decisions about their mental health medications.

ree

Our research will find ways to help people with learning disabilities and their families be more involved in decisions about their mental health medications and other forms of support.

ree

We want to interview people with learning disabilities, their families, and paid carers about their experiences of mental health medications.

ree

We are looking for people from the North of England to take part in an online interview on Zoom.

ree

You can find more information on our website.
